Qeema Matar ( Mince Curry With Green Peas )
****************************************************
Serves : 4
Ingredients :
- 1/4 cup cooking oil
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 1 tsp. cumin seeds
- 1 black cardamom
- 3 cloves
- 6 whole black peppers
- 2" cinnamon stick
- 1 tsp. ginger garlic paste
- 500 gm. mutton or beef mince ( Qeema )
- 1/4 tsp. turmeric powder
- 1 1/2 to 2 tsp. red chillies powder
- 1 tsp. salt or to taste
- 3 medium tomatoes, chopped
- 1 cup green peas ( Matar )
- 2 green chillies, chopped
- 1/2 tsp. garam masala powder
- 2 tbsp. fresh coriander leaves, chopped
Method :
- Heat oil in a pan. Add sliced onion and fry till light brown.
- Add cumin seeds, cardamom, cloves, black pepper, cinnamon and ginger garlic paste; stir-fry for a minute.
- Add mince and stir-fry for few minutes until it begins to brown.
- Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, salt and tomatoes; mix well.
- Add 1/2 cup water ( if required, as the tomatoes will release their liquid during cooking ); bring to a boil.
- Cover and cook on medium heat till the water dries out and the oil leaves the sides of the pan ( about 25 - 30 minutes ).
- Add the green peas, green chillies and 1/2 cup water; mix and cook, covered, on low heat until peas are cooked and little water or gravy is left.
- Sprinkle garam masala and coriander leaves. Serve hot with Naan or Chappati.
