Homemade Strawberry Jam recipe ... Make your own jam with just 3 ingredients ( strawberries, sugar, and lemon juice ). Spread over a slice of bread, use it in desserts or enjoy a spoonful of jam for a sweet fix :)
Homemade Strawberry Jam
********************************
Ingredients:
Method:
- Wash the strawberries thoroughly, hull and halve ( if they are large, cut into small chunks).
- Place a plate in the freezer to chill, this will be used to test the jam.
- In a pan, combine strawberries, sugar and lemon juice and stir with a wooden spoon.
- Cook on very low heat until the sugar has dissolved and the strawberries are softened.
- Mash the pieces of strawberries with the back of the spoon ( Do not mash completely, if you like it a bit chunky ).
- Increase the heat and bring to a boil. Now boil hard to thicken contents until the jam reaches setting point. Skim off any foam that rises to the surface with a spoon.
- When jam starts to form smaller, thicker bubbles; remove from heat & test for setting.
- Put a teaspoon of jam on the prepared cold plate. Drag a finger through it. If jam is ready, the parting made by the finger will remain open. If it runs together, a little more cooking is required.
- If jam is not set, return to the heat and cook again for few more minutes before testing again.
- Remove from heat and leave to cool for 2-3 minutes.
- Spoon the jam into clean warm dry jars, cover it with muslin cloth ( malmal ka kapra ) and leave to cool at room temperature.
- When cool, cover and store in a cool, dark place or in the refrigerator.

What a beautiful jam! Wish I were not allergic to strawberries...love the color :)
ReplyDeleteI love this jam recipe. I am looking for something to make as a Mother's Day gift. I was wondering, as I don't know much about jam making, can this be blended either before or after cooking it so that it is more like a spread? I don't want any chunks at all.
ReplyDeleteThanks
Thank you Elisa for liking the recipe. I've just made a batch of jam from strawberry puree. Just blend strawberries to a puree before making the jam. Hope you give it a try :)
DeleteI love making my sauce and jam from the scratch. I made my strawberry jam with just sugar and strawberries and never thought of mixing it with lemon juice. This probably taste better. I must try this!
ReplyDeleteThere is a link party in my blog going on today and I would love for you to share this recipe!

Hi, What is the shelf life of this jam in the refrigerator?
ReplyDeleteAn opened jar can be refrigerated up to 2 months :)

ReplyDeleteWhen you’ve washed your jars and got them in the oven, get two plates or flat saucers and pop them in the fridge for later for testing the jam for a set.
ReplyDeleteThis looks amazing! I Love strawberry jam!
