Besan Ka Halwa ( Gram Flour Halva )

Besan Ka Halwa ( Gram Flour Halva ) ... Quick and easy traditional dessert made with gram flour ( chickpea flour / garbanzo flour / besan ). This delicious and hot halwa is perfect during winter season.

Happy and Blessed Eid Milad-un-Nabi { festival of the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad ( Peace be upon Him)’s birth } to all Muslims around the world!

Besan Ka Halwa ( Gram Flour Halva )
*******************************************
Serves : 6 - 8

Ingredients :
  • 250 gm.  sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 125 gm.  ghee ( clarified butter )
  • 250 gm.  gram flour ( chickpea flour / garbanzo flour / besan )
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Almonds and pistachios, sliced; as required
  • 1/2 tsp.  ground green cardamoms
  • Almonds and pistachios, for garnishing

Method :
  • In a pan, combine sugar and water and cook on medium heat till sugar is completely dissolved and the syrup slightly thickens.
  • Meanwhile, melt ghee in a non-stick pan. Add gram flour and cook on low heat, stirring continuously until the gram flour turns golden in color and becomes fragrant.
  • Add sugar syrup and continue to cook, stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
  • Add milk and cook till it pulls away from the sides of the pan.
  • Add nuts and ground cardamom. Mix well and cook till ghee separates from the halwa.
  • Serve hot garnished with nuts.

  2. Such a nice colour, Ambreen!
My mother used to make a thin consistency of besan for colds, then I improvised it to eat it as parshaad when I went on gluten free living and used chickpea flour.Besan and chickpea flour are made from two different bean and taste slightly different. They both tastes great, though. check my version here http://www.simpleglutenfreekitchen.com/2011/11/parshad.html

  21. This is one of my favourite halwas. However, I don't make it at home often because firstly, I don't have the time or patience to stir it for so long and secondly, my husband is really very calorie conscious. Your pics are making me drool.

    1. I really enjoyed your blog and I can't wait to try the halva recipe. I am vegan so I will have to use coconut oil instead of ghee, but the results will hopefully be similar :) Thanks for taking the time to visit my blog. I hope you will come and visit again!
