Gathia ( Crunchy Gram Flour Sticks ) ... Gathia is a traditional Indian / Pakistani snack. These crunchy thick sticks are made with gram flour, salt, baking soda, spices and oil. Enjoy it just on its own or with a cup of tea!
Gathia ( Crunchy Gram Flour Sticks )

Serves : 4 - 6
Ingredients :
Method :
- Sift the gram flour in a bowl; add salt, baking soda, carom seeds and nigella seeds.
- Add hot oil and mix all ingredients thoroughly by rubbing between your fingers.
- Gradually add water, adding enough to form a stiff dough.
- Heat oil ( for deep frying ) in a wok / karahi or deep frying pan, over medium heat.
- Use the star shaped disc in the Sev maker or press. Lightly grease the inside cylinder of Sev press, fill with dough and screw the lid.
- Hold the Sev press over wok, press the dough through the hole by turning the handle and drop directly into the hot oil.
- Fry on medium heat until they turn light golden, flip them over and fry the other side until golden.
- Remove from oil and drain on absorbent paper. Break them into small pieces.
- Cool completely and store in airtight jar.
